Sometimes it seems that the number of records as shown is not correct. It says "1000+ found", but there should be more.
This can indeed happen, as the number is an indication, not the exact number.
For performance reasons, the number of records in a result list is not counted exactly, but an estimate is displayed, based on database statistics. What can happen is that the estimate is off, or that an estimate cannot be given. This last situation can occur specifically when the number of records in the database has changed rapidly, e.g. after a data import, or when sending a mass mailing.
The number of records in a list is displayed on one of these ways:
1 - 1000
A number of 1000 or below is always accurate: With these numbers the exact count is used, so this number is correct.
~2000, ~3000, ~....
Numbers above 1000 are estimated, hence the '~'. These estimates are always rounded to the nearest thousand.
In some cases (e.g. after a complex search) it is not possible to produce a reliable estimate. In this case, Carerix displays "1000+". This could mean 1001, but also 50,000 or more. This number just means "more than 1000".
In most cases the estimate as provided is adequate. However, in some cases you do need the precise number of records in a list. This is possible in the following way:
With every list, there is a report "Exact count" available. This report will always give the correct number of records in the list. If you do not see this report in your Carerix application yet, you can install it yourself:
- Sign in as Administrator
- Go to 'Maintenace' | 'Templates', tab "Document"
- Click [Library...]
- Go to Activity (overview), "Exact count"
- Click [Install]
- Repeat for Match (overview) and the other overviews
- Log out and in again, at each overview you will now see the report "Exact count".
